Week 2 of the 2025 season delivered early statements, upsets, and dominant performances across the 540.
THE TOP TEN
10. James Monroe Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets are off to a scorching start, outscoring Westmoreland and Charlottesville by a combined 82-7 in their first two games. With an experienced staff and a roster that’s buying into the culture, JM looks much sharper than in recent seasons. The question now becomes whether this is just a hot start—or if the Yellow Jackets are truly back to being one of the area’s most consistent contenders.
9. Spotsylvania Knights
The Vern Lunsford era is off to a dream start as Spotsy erased a late 16-7 deficit to stun Massaponax 21-16. The Knights are 2-0 for the first time since 2019, and the momentum is building fast on Courthouse Road. Nothing helps buy-in for a new coach like wins, and right now Spotsy is delivering them.
8. Brooke Point Black-Hawks
The Black-Hawks looked unstoppable early, racing to a 34-14 halftime lead over Colgan, but a second-half collapse turned a sure win into a 41-34 loss. QB Malachi Redfearn and the offense showed flashes, but defensive lapses cost them dearly. Brooke Point will look to rebound quickly when they host Potomac, hoping to get back on track.
7. Mountain View Wildcats
The Wildcats came close to keeping things even early, but a goal-line stand by Battlefield set the tone for a 35-7 loss. Big plays and quick strikes by the Bobcats put Mountain View on their heels all game, and a kickoff return right after halftime sealed their fate. Mountain View showed flashes, but the Wildcats couldn’t overcome the momentum swings. They’ll look to rebound next week on the road at Patriot, a matchup already carrying playoff type stakes.
6. Caroline Cavaliers
Caroline keeps the momentum going, cruising past their second opponent 33-7 after last week’s 83-12 rout. Blake Morris and Tre Coles continue to lead the charge, showing the Cavs’ balance and depth on both sides of the ball. With confidence building, Caroline heads to King William looking to extend their winning streak and keep making a statement in the Battlefield District.
5. Kettle Run Cougars
The Cougars dominated Meridian 34-8, with Dycen Tapscott and the offense firing on all cylinders while the defense kept Meridian in check. Kettle Run’s balanced attack and suffocating coverage make them tough to beat early in the season. Next up, they’ll open district play against 0-1 Skyline, looking to continue their undefeated start.
4. Louisa Lions
The Lions made a statement by blanking #10 Courtland 36-0, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive dominance. Savion Hiter and Dyzier Carter led the charge, controlling both sides of the ball with precision. Louisa now travels to Matoaca looking to keep their momentum rolling and maintain their spot as one of the top teams in the area.
#3 North Stafford Wolverines
The Wolverines responded in a major way, demolishing Osbourn 49-13 on the road behind standout performances from Chase Sullivan and Kenaz Sullivan. North’s offense clicked on all cylinders while the defense kept the opposition in check for most of the game. Next up, their home opener against a dangerous Gar-Field team will be the real early-season test for this Commonwealth contender.
2. Riverbend Bears
The Bears flexed their muscle at home, shutting out Forest Park 29-0 and controlling the game from start to finish. Riverbend’s defense smothered the high-scoring visitors while the offense methodically ate up the clock. Next up is a road trip to King George, where another dominant performance could cement Riverbend’s spot as one of the top teams in the area.
1. Colonial Forge Eagles
The Eagles proved why they’re the team to beat, cruising past Patriot 32-7 with a balanced attack and timely explosive plays. Brock Brimhall and Torie Martin led the way offensively, while the defense kept Patriot off the scoreboard for long stretches. Forge looks poised to continue their dominance as the season heads into more competitive district matchups.
