Week 2 540 Top 10
Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.
Week 1 has come and gone and we have learned a lot! Here is our Top 10 after a week of play!
THE TOP TEN
10. Stafford Indians (1-0)
Last Week: 50-28 Win at Home over James Monroe
The Indians absolutely dominated the Yellow Jackets in what appears to be the last game for the foreseeable future between the 2 schools. Michael Creamer, Zion Gray, and DeAndre Monroe led the charge in the first half that saw the Indians take a 43-0 lead
9. King George Foxes (0-1)
So no. KG will NOT finish a fifth consecutive regular season undefeated... That doesn't mean the sky is falling... Koch showed that he has the ability to get the ball to his weapons, and Ky'Mani Carpenter, Gunnar Regar, Charles Johnson, and Daniel Grigsby are not bad options to have.
8. Massaponax Panthers (1-0)
Last Week: 35-12 Win at Home over Independence
Independence is a team that has plenty of highly touted kids with an experienced coaching staff. And yet Massaponax was able to shale off some mistake and beat the Tigers by 23 at home while shpwcasing their new look offense. Ian Shook looked comfortable on Friday night.
7. Riverbend Bears
Last Week: 21-3 Win over Chancellor at Home
Their game against Chancellor was ended early after an injury to a Chancellor player. The Bears were rolling up until the stoppage point and will now travel to take on Forest Park who fell to Mountain View 37-12
6. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (1-0)
Last Week: 39-36 Win over #5 King George at Home
Brooke Point ended King George's 39 game regular season by relying on the big play ability of Dombek and this offense. The Senior QB threw 3 TD passes while Caden Johnson and Anthony Robinson provided support on the ground... If they can stay consistent look for BP to make noise in their district.
#5 Courtland Cougars (1-0)
Last Week: 44-14 Win over Orange at Home
Courtland made a strong statement with a dominant 44-14 victory over Orange. (Junior) TE/DE Keegan Parker was a force on the defensive side, helping the Cougars control the game from start to finish. With this impressive performance, they prepare to face #7 Louisa next week in what promises to be a key matchup.
#4 Kettle Run Cougars
Last Week: 39-7 Win over rival Liberty at Home
Kettle Run jumps from #6 to #4 after a convincing 39-7 win over rival Liberty. The Cougars showcased a balanced offensive attack with standout performances from (QB) Jake Mulhern, (RB) Colton Quaker, and (RB) Hayden Bell. With this momentum, they look forward to hosting Handley next week.
3.Mountain View Wildcats
Last Week: 37-12 Win over Forest Park at Home
Mountain View showed their resilience, overcoming an early 6-0 deficit to dominate Forest Park 37-12, marking their fifth win against the Bruins since 2021. Bryce Lampert led the charge, throwing touchdown passes to Tyler Tanks and Austin Barber. The defense, despite graduating key players and facing two Division I linemen, looked formidable once again, shutting down Forest Park after the opening score and intercepting the Bruin QB twice (Nick English and Elias Hines).
2. Eastern View Cyclones
Game against Culpeper was postponed for tonight so they stay put at 2, they will somehow turn around and play Hugenot Saturday.
#1 Colonial Forge
Last Week: 22-21 Win at Woodbridge
Colonial Forge retains the top spot after a nail-biting 22-21 victory over Woodbridge. The Eagles' defense came up big with two interceptions of Woodbridge's sophomore standout Denari Hill, while freshman RB Marquece Sharpe showed promise with over 100 yards on the ground. Josiah Bryson led Forge's rushing attack with 130 yards on 16 carries. The Eagles will likely want to avoid having as many heart stoppers as that one, it took a 2pt conversion stand to secure the win for Eagles this time.
